Alfa Transaxle Cars: Model Guide

Alfa constantly updated the Giulia series, but by the time the range was replaced, the cars were becoming out of date. Political  unrest and industrial action delayed the introduction of the replacement  Alfetta, the first of the transaxle cars. This, together with Alfa´s quality issues and the rise of BMW, meant that Alfa Romeo lost its position as the pre-eminent middle-weight European sports saloon. Despite this, there was much to admire in the transaxle cars. Again, there are several different model ranges of different capacities and this guide treats them

  • Chronologically
  • By body style (Sedan/ Coupé) and capacity within that body style
  • Ignoring the outliers (no South African/Brazilian specials, no special trim editions)
  • No engine series numbers*
